  • SAAB, you will be missed

    I read today that GM has been unable to sell off the SAAB brand and will be winding it down for good.  It’s a sad but unsurprising ending to the brand that introduced me to the joy of driving.  My first car was a hand-me-down 1982 Saab 900S: a manual 5-speed with all the quirks and idiosyncrasies you would expect from a Swedish auto manufacturer.  I have very fond memories of working on it with my dad, especially the time we replaced the CV joints.  It was truly a great car, and one that I will miss.

  • Network troubles? Start at Layer 1!

    Whether it’s a copper network cable connecting your computer to a router, a fiber optic cable connecting an ISP to the Internet, or a microwave beam between two antennas, lack of respect for the physical layer (Layer 1 of the OSI model) has perpetuated more problems than I care to count.

  • Just getting started…

    I’m finally getting with the program here and firing up my blog. Thanks to InMotion Hosting for getting my account set up so quickly.  I’ve been very pleased so far with their customer service and the speed of the machine my site is hosted on.  cPanel is very responsive, and WordPress seems to fly compared to some of the other installs I’ve used on other hosts.

    So that’s it.  My next post is going to be about the #1 rule in network troubleshooting.  Check back soon, or follow me on Twitter for updates.
