SAAB, you will be missed

I read today that GM has been unable to sell off the SAAB brand and will be winding it down for good.  It’s a sad but unsurprising ending to the brand that introduced me to the joy of driving.  My first car was a hand-me-down 1982 Saab 900S: a manual 5-speed with all the quirks and idiosyncrasies you would expect from a Swedish auto manufacturer.  I have very fond memories of working on it with my dad, especially the time we replaced the CV joints.  It was truly a great car, and one that I will miss.

I would love to read other’s favorite car stories or memories.  Share them in the comments!

Thanks for leaving out that I wrecked it. 😀

My favorite memory was how Dad’s eyes twinkled the first time he took it for a test drive. (He had tasked me with finding an “American” car with front wheel drive that wasn’t a piece of sh*@. Couldn’t find one, but told him that the Saab was pretty good.) Needless to say, he was interested in getting the turbo model, but killjoy me didn’t think we could afford the extra expense. I loved driving that car, and would have bought another if they had maintained the quirky styling. May she rest in peace.
